A Georgian silver mounted travelling corkscrew. SP maker. c 1800A travelling corkscrew with a pearl handle and silver cover. The maker's initials are stamped on the base SP for Samuel Pemberton a well known Birmingham silversmith of the late 18th and early 19th century. In excellent condition the steel corkscrew section is the correct length and there is no damage to the pearl or to the silver. 8cm long 5cm across Stock no. LB14

Both have some rust but this could be cleaned off

The salmon pink ribbon is a replacement but with printed numbers ( please see photos )

The belt hook is stamped on the back EPNS for electro plated nickel silver

The purse is sub-divided inside with a closure in brass on the central part

Behind the needle packets there is a silk book for any loose needles

75 cm and is of flattened form

The hall marks date it to Chester 1902 possibly by Charles Horner ( the maker's marks are indistinct because of the pattern but I think it is CH )

It is illustrated on the back shelf of a black and white photo (plate 286) in Pinto's 'Treen and Other Wooden Bygones'

The piece is stamped with the maker's initials on the top- W & K (Wardell & Kempson who were maker's of small silver in Birmingham at the time

The silver is hall marked on the back for Birmingham 1814 maker JW (Joseph Willmore)
