Allium sphaerocephalonBuy 1 for $14. 00 Buy 5 for $60. 00 Commonly called the Drumstick Allium. A fantastic little burgundy flowered Allium that we have no problem growing in our climate ( 7C to 45C). It pops up out of the ground in early Spring and flowers in November December to around 60cm in height. The dark burgundy spherical flower heads contrast beautifully with ornamental grasses, Sedums and wispy perennials like Amsonia.

Flowers are held aloft in an intriguing pink with a hint of apricot

The foliage makes great material for floral arrangements and has its own intriguing botanical twist - the apparent leaves are actually modified stems (cladodes)

Slender spikes of bright magenta pink flowers emerge from 20cm tall basal clumps

'Limelight' can handle more sun but tends to take on a washed out yellow hue instead of the desired lime

virescens is more a lilac to pink colour

It also has no serious pest or disease problems

Intense orangey pink to red tones adorn the upright spiky stems in late Autumn and early Winter

Having said that 'Chocolate Shogun' still prefers dappled shade and moist conditions

Best known for its silvery stems and aromatic deeply divided grey/silver foliage which in Summer is covered in lavender blue flowers
