A horn tatting shuttle with inlaid decoration. c1870A horn tatting shuttle inlaid on the front with mother of pearl flowers and silver wire. c1870. The back is undecorated. 7. 5cm long. There is a tiny piece of the silver wire missing (see photo) but otherwise it is in very good condition. Stock no. LQ11

The silver marks are just the two assay marks-the silver lion and the monarch's head

The inside of the flap is embossed with Kirby Beard & Co London and the Royal Coat of Arms

It is fluted and spiked and uses shades of mauve in the glass body

A short silver pencil with suspension ring probably to hang on an albert or albertina

It is embroidered 1892 on one flap and IS or JS on the other

The silver mark of a hare's head is in the bottom line of pattern above the rim

The ribbon ties are turquoise coloured ribbon which matches the colour of the stitch work

Sir Charles Wakefield was a business man who founded the Castrol oil company and was a benefactor of a number of charities

The original black painted line runs through the middle of it still
