A Georgian butterfly pin cushion. c1820-1830A novelty pin cushion in the shape of a butterfly pin stuck on the edges. The first pair of wings are covered in a printed cotton in a stylised pagoda design chinoiserie being popular in the Regency period probably off cuts from a dress. The other layers of card are covered in silk in yellow, red and figured mauve in a floral pattern. c1820 1830. Some of the pins are missing but the rest are the sort made in two parts with the heads being applied

It has a seal end cap engraved with the initials PA

The case 16 x 8cm

This silver example dates to circa 1850 and would have been a souvenir

It has a silver stepped and cross hatched spring cover

There's also a piece of cloth for the loose needles which is both glued and tied in

The leather is in excellent condition- no damage or splits and the gold tooling is bright

The handles are marked sterling but the date letter is rubbed

It is French but the inscription inside says its owner was a Mrs

A Victorian traveller's souvenir- a wooden page marker painted with a view of Montreux in Switzerland

The interior is in pristine condition and the paper unused- a treasured keepsake

It is unmarked but is stamped M on the base indicating the size of the leads inside
