Chateau, LascombesThe 2022 La Cte de Lascombes is just as impressive as it was when I tasted it a few months ago. Dense and explosive, the 2022 possesses notable textural richness and pure power. The 2022 was vinified by the former team here, so it naturally shows considerable extraction and a much stronger oak imprint than is the case with the vintages that follow it. Black cherry, plum, chocolate, licorice and espresso stain the palate on the potent finish.

with well-structured confident tannins and a deep swirl of black pepper

lemony and quite serious finish that displays excellent length

I suspect this will come close to the quality of the Hill of Grace at a fraction of the price

Musky currant and milk chocolate aromas are complemented by smoky oak

with 30% new oak

and this is the more tannic of the Ultreia range even if they lower the intensity here

minerals and fresh herbs

Like the Chenevery this is not super vibrant but the density of the mid-palate and overall persistence is most impressive

vinified entirely with whole clusters

there is no rusticity at all

refreshing and once again sneaky long effort

What I tasted is a superb collection of wines
