Torbreck, The GaskThe Gask is a relatively new wine made since 2005 from 100% Shiraz sourced from a single vineyard in the Eden Valley planted in 1960. The 2008 The Gask gives a very deep garnet purple color and intense warm berry, kirsch, creme de cassis and wilted roses aromas plus a whiff of prunes. Very full bodied with plenty of ripe, rich fruit it has a nice backbone of crisp acid and medium level fine grained tannins supporting it through the long finish.

Relatively strong reduction mars the nose

There is good richness and an abundance of dry extract to the strikingly refined flavors that possess a gorgeous mouthfeel while delivering flat out superb length on the balanced finale

and it means the fruit struggles to break free

all wrapped in an austere and serious finish that is impressively complex and persistent
