“Edinburgh Upright” Chess Set, circa 1860A Northern or Edinburgh Upright Pattern chess set, circa 1860. Scarce. one side in boxwood, the other side in ebony, kings with urn shaped tops, queens with large ball finials, bishops with mitres, knights as horses heads, rooks as turrets with battlements, pawns with ball finials, in the original mahogany box with a sliding lid. King: 7. 5cm high, base 2. 7cm diameter Pawn: 3. 9cm high, base 1. 3cm diameter Box: 16cm wide, 12cm deep, 7. 4cm high
