An engraved silver thimble. HM. 1889. Maker HG.A silver thimble with engraved panels and fully hall marked HG (Henry Griffith) Birmingham 1889 (an early date for this maker). In excellent condition no holes or repairs. 2. 3cm high Finger aperture 1. 4cm in diameter. Stock no. B10

The back cover is fitted with a gilt metal hook so it could be worn on the dress of a young lady at a ball

A novelty wooden nutcracker in the form of a grotesque man

One of the largest pieces I've come across that are made from the oak timbers of the ship the Royal George

I've put them as one lot as they are by the same maker going by the style of the letter E

The indents are waffle shaped rather than the more usual dimpling

The paper advert has been folded and has a small tear but that bit is still there

The anchor style chape and the prongs are steel

The barrel and base are made of mutton bone as can be seen by the flecking in that material

Stock buckles ( the silver studs are indicative) were worn at the back of the neck

The case and carry the petit guarantee of silver- a hare's head rather than the later boar's head mark

A wooden thread barrel from an early Georgian workbox in the style known as Painted Tunbridge Ware which predates the better known inlaid work of Victorian times
