Victorian Kiwi Intaglio RingCharming Victorian signet ring with an intaglio carved pounamu panel, intaglio carved to depict a kiwi (the bird, not the fruit). It's built in 18ct gold, likely made in New Zealand during the latter half of the 19th century, circa 1890, when jewellery made from gold and pounamu was particularly fashionable on the islands. Pounamu (aka greenstone) is nephrite, a variety of jade that has played an important part in Maori culture for thousands of years,
