It is a complex composition divided by a bold diagonal - part roof line
In his manuscript catalogue Denning records two signatures
Probably originally one of a pair representing Gabriel and the Virgin Annunciate
There is no procession of angels striding up and down
grasped by the Infant Jesus' chubby fingers
bears a full signature
these have since been removed (National Portrait Gallery Library)
The attribution to Lauri has been retained since 1813
