Greenhouse IIAs part of my 2013 exhibition at the University Botanic Gardens, Gardens II is one of a series of images about the group of lovely brick and iron glasshouses. At certain times of year they are brimming with rows and rows of flowering plants, all being prepared for planting around De Montfort Hall and the like for Degree Ceremonies. When I first moved to Leicester I remember people proudly telling me that Leicester has the biggest outdoor market in Europe… and I decided if I didn’t grow it I’d always buy my veg there…

even if no longer used for their original purpose

I belong to the Leicester Society of Artists and in 2012 we had an exhibition with the theme ‘The City’ which prompted me to feature this and two other buildings that were on my doorstep

I had the pleasure of finally visiting Levens Hall

Once the home of the iconic typewriters and the scene of some important Industrial and Trade Union landmark decision in the 1970s even though it now houses dozens of small organisations and business the building still stands proudly on the edge of the city
