"New Beginnings" Pierced Tulip Vase 2This vase was thrown on the wheel using speckled clay. It was trimmed once leather hard and then carefully pierced and smoothed. The leaves and stems were painted with underglaze and the pattern was carved with a technique called sgraffito. The clay around the leaves and flowers was carved to add texture and to make the flower stand out. It was bisque fired, then glazed clear and then fired to this finished product.
