SOLD........A German porcelain pipe bowl and reservoir. Military service. c1910A decorative German porcelain pipe with transfer prints and script showing it was a soldier's memento and is dated 1910. There are two parts the bowl and the reservoir plus a pierced metal cover with the image of a soldier under glass. Part of the text on the reservoir reads Errinerung an meine Dienstzeit (reminder of my service) The bowl has his name and that he was an infantryman. Josef? There is a bell shaped piece of decorative card in the lid possibly indicating it was a wedding present

It is embroidered in long stitch and the collar is a real bit of lace

The strawberry coloured woven silk has faded to a strawberry pink but the green silk has kept its colour

Condition- there are no cracks or repairs but there is a small round flaw filled with varnish and another much smaller one on the opposite side of the urn

In good condition

The outer box is made of two panels of wood set with pieces of mother of pearl and abalone shell

The spindles used for turning the inner reels on the barrels are shorter than usual probably owing to damage although they may have been deliberately cut down to fit in a box as they are all the same height

There are tiny silver marks on the rings soldered to the sides of the boots

The handles are made of thick pieces of carved mother of pearl and the steel hook sections are of good quality
