A lady's tooled leather visiting card case. c 1840A gold tooled, black leather visiting card case used by a lady as at this date it would have contained large cards but with small lettering. It is lined with pink paper. c1840 In excellent condition no damage. 3. 75 x 2. 75 inches9. 5 x 7 cm Stock no. JJ39

One side reads- 'Victoria 1 born May 24th 1819'

In good condition- only minor signs of use on the barrel but with damage to the retaining ring on the end of the pencil

The back is plain rosewood

The front is decorated with a transfer of a floral spray and the whole varnished

The purple velvet cushion on top has lost its nap but otherwise the tape / emery / waxer sections are in excellent condition

The other side- 'Crowned June 28th 1838'

one drinking from a bucket held by a lady at a well and titled in French 'Le Petit Egoiste' and the other box has an artist painting a lady and child titled 'Le Peintre Espagnole'

Finger aperture 17mm Height 2

A thickly carved mother of pearl stiletto made in two parts

It is still likely to be French but possibly of a later date c1850
