Giraffe Necklace - Kanga beadThis amazing necklace is handmade from hand painted fair trade ceramic beads. The clay used to make these beads is responsibly mined from the foot of Africa's second tallest mountain Mt. Kenya. The beads are handmade by our maker mums who roll and shape the clay by hand. Some of the women have been at this art for more than 50 years. The raw bead is sun dried for a day before its fired in a kiln (bisque firing) at 900 degrees to harden it. After this,

they fire them in a kiln at 1200 degree Celsius after which they hand paint them into the desired patterns using specialist ceramic glazes

Since the beads are handpainted there maybe slight variations in colour from what is shown in the picture

The leather is highest quality full grain that is vegetable tanned using oak tree extracts and therefore does not use harmful chromium in the tanning process
