Gambel Oak is an extremely slow growing tree. This piece has over 80 annual growth rings in its 7. 5 diameter. The tree died as a result of the 2018 Bull Draw Fire on the Uncompahgre Plateau.
It is amazing to me to think that tree likely start growing before any Europeans made it to this continent
