The Abyss

The AbyssFrom Jake Wilton: Reef sharks of the Maldives. When I first seen these sharks from a distance I thought they were silver tips but as they moved closer I realised they were actually grey reef sharks. The grey reefs in the Maldives have white silver tipped dorsal fins.

This is how our oceans and reefs should look

I love their little horns at the base of each dorsal fin and I also love their striking black markings

I loved watching the intricate family behaviours and the clumsiness of the chicks was beyond cute

The light blue hue of the surrounding sea accentuates the scene as a mimic to the calm blue skies as portrayed in most of the religious paintings of old

and every time I feel like I could stare at the intricate details scrawled across it for hours

While the largest of penguin species have less vivid of a coloring as their other monarchical counterpart

with the tail fin looming in the foreground

we get a good view of the whale shark's back
