SOLD……A small Boulle box with tortoiseshell and brass inlay. French c1870A small trinket desk box made of ebonised wood inlaid with brass and tortoiseshell just on the lid. The push button brass catch opens it to reveal space for a few rings or other trinkets French c 1870. The inlay is all present and there is no damage but the shell has a wrinkled crocodile skin effect possibly the result of a layer of old lacquer? 9 x 5. 5 x 3. 5 cm 3. 5 x 2. 25 x 1. 5 inches Stock no. The pale blue silk ribbon in the tape is a replacement and has been left unmarked

In 1840 the wreck was blown up but the timbers and copper were salvaged and made into souvenirs and sold in the 1850s

There are some small pressure marks on the plain surface of the handle but no damage

They are trimmed with faded gold and silver applied paper

It has a ring attachment for suspension

It is hall marked for Birmingham 1906 maker CM ( Charles May )

A good quality pierced and engraved silver gilt belt buckle

3 cm high x 3 cm in diameter

The seal end is uncut and is a pink coloured stone
