A needle case in the form of an umbrella. French. Palais Royal c1820A turned mutton bone needle case with gilt mounts and a gilt bird's head handle. French c 1820 In excellent condition just a minor, fine hairline crack mentioned for accuracy see photo. 10cm long 4 inches NB. The design is also found in mother of pearl. This example is made of domestic animal bone not ivory which is indicated by the black flecking in the material. Stock no. KY39

There are no silver marks but it tests as silver and dates to circa 1860

A heavy purse for its size as it was made using tiny metal beads -gold for the background and metallic blue beads the pattern

The silver rivet covers are cross hatched and are centred on the middle of the flower heads

It is oblong with shaped sides which are finished in black and then the whole varnished

the case is lined in yellow paper and it has a sepia print of a stag inside the lid

It has its original beaded spangle

A Scottish pen and ink snuff box with integral wooden hinge decorated with a well drawn scene of a hound drinking with reeds in the background

There is no damage although the original varnish finish has a few minor scuffs and there is some staining to the edges of the paper lining of the lid (see photos)

The interior has general wear to the edges of the green silk

It is excellent quality with thick gilding and with no damage to the beads or mount
