SOLD………1851 Exhibition of All Nations silver thimble. a/fA silver thimble made as a souvenir of the Great Exhibition in 1851. The pattern of the Crystal Palace is clearly defined and the text on the rim easily readable but it has three small holes in the side of the cap which needs removing and soldering back by a silversmith. Priced reasonably bearing in mind the damage. See the last photo. Stock no. W26

The method of production was to create a sandwich of brass and shell and then to use a fretsaw to cut both pieces together so when separated they fitted together like a jigsaw puzzle

There are no marks on the silver

The blue one is undamaged and the 'cameo' has a minor chip on the edge at the back which can't be seen when viewed from the front

A little clear cut glass scent bottle which looks like a small barrel

5 cm  including the tassel

The hall marks are slightly obscured by the pattern but it looks like Chester letter N for 1896

Inside one page has a tear and another some creases

In excellent condition- some brown discoloration to the pearl on the side of the button hook

The handles are made of thick pieces of carved mother of pearl and the steel hook sections are of good quality
