SOLD………………..The 'Cupid's Casket'- an Avery needle packet case. Patented 1872.A gilt brass needle holder. The brass sides are embossed with the figure of cupid and engraved with the title 'Cupid's Casket' and 'Avery & Son Redditch'. The top has the design registration details for 1872. The mechanism is worked from one side only you open the top of the case and then turn the numbered flower head which pushes the needle packet holders up into position. 5. 5 x 2 cm In excellent condition. There is a bell shaped piece of decorative card in the lid possibly indicating it was a wedding present

There are some fleabites on the edges - the most obvious being on the corner of the base (see last photo)

washed and put back together using the original fabrics but the ribbon ties had all but disintegrated so have been replaced with new matching maroon ribbon

There are some marks on the back which are partly a natural flaw in the shell but also where the inside has been cut rather too close to the surface which shows as an outline on the outside
