Spinetta, Barolo Campe

Spinetta, Barolo Campe2000 La Spinetta Barolo Campe shows an inky dark color. With a nose of over ripe, jammy blueberry, blackberry, wood and raisin. Big, fat and concentrated, the wine shows a little heat along with dry tannins in the opulent, ripe, black cherry flavored finish. I wasn't a fan of Barolo before tasting this wine. This bottle, which is atypical for Barolo did not change my mind.

It’s a super classic Barolo from one of La Morra's greatest sites

The palate is unctuous in the mouth that is probably going to be sugar-coated for the next year or two

the 2017 Flor de Pingus was produced from very concentrated grapes with lots of tannin

This is notably finer than the old vines cuvée if not quite a long or concentrated

This fine effort is sufficiently firm to repay mid- to even longer-term cellaring

The palate is still unyielding

all wrapped in a wonderfully long and pure finish

even lilting

A more elegant though still markedly earthy nose speaks of dark berries

Knockout aromas reminiscent of a great mature Burgundy

yet the balance is impeccable
