Sea Shore with Rearing Horse
As early as 1927
the Hemiksem brickyard was one of the oldest in the Netherlands
Probably painted in the mid-1660s
but from the mid-1630s he started to paint Italianate landscapes inspired by the works of Poelenburch and Both
The painting seems to be an autograph 'modello' for Rubens's altarpiece of the Miracles of Saint Ignatius
Ribera and then to Luca Giordano
dated by Vlieghe within the period c
Probably a partial copy (with the addition of the crown of thorns) from Murillo's altarpiece of the Virgin and Child with Saint Anne in the church of Adanero
This is a sketch for an altarpiece by Conca
the Dulwich canvas depicts an allegory of the human struggle between Reason and Concupiscence
The subject is from Matthew II
possibly by Jacob van Strij (1756-1815)
