Burlotto, Barolo CannubiThis historic estate based in Verduno is renowned for its Monvigliero bottling, but in 2015 its Cannubi from the village of Barolo seems even finer. The nose is sweet, floral and lifted, with no trace of overripeness. Initially sleek, the palate grows in austerity, which is often a characteristic of this wine. But this grip and structure are welcome and don't dominate the spiciness and persistence of the fruit. Very long.

showing power but no coarseness

the fermentation and aging are the same as for the centenary Carignan

both of which are impressive

Juicy and intense but without the explosive fruit of the 2010

don’t think about touching bottles until at least 2020

and a tight acid spine and serious but polished tannins nicely extending and framing the brooding fruit notes and peppery flintiness on the long

warm pastry and crisp green orchard fruit

Finishes moderately long and a bit simple

All the elements are there

full and very serious big-bodied and tautly muscular flavors supported by plenty of dry extract and superb length

the medium-bodied and concentrated flavors are even more powerful than those of the Bougros and Valmur

There is more volume if less power to the more generously proportioned medium-bodied flavors that coat the palate with dry extract that also helps to buffer the moderately firm tannic spine
