Espectacle Del MontsantAlmost reaching perfection, the 2012 Espectacle del Montsant is nothing short of spectacular, a worthy follow up to the 2010. I first tasted the wine looking at the vineyard which is as close as it gets to the Hermitage hill or Cte Rtie, an amazing terraced amphitheater planted with very old Garnacha vines on chalky soils at higher altitude in Montsant, in the village of La Morera, which might produce the freshest wines of the appellation. The 2012 is

velvety tannins and echoing sweet blue fruit

I also tasted Conterno’s first wines from his newly-acquired vineyard in Cerretta

dazzling intensity and remarkable richness

so they had to do a very soft vinification and an extended élevage

clove and violet nuances on the pretty mix of blue and black pinot fruit and plum aromas

This may well age out successfully but make no mistake

highly perfumed bouquet evokes raspberry liqueur

this may be the most under rated wine in the de Montille portfolio with its ripe

the 2011 Bruno Giacosa Barbaresco Albesani Vigna Santo Stefano had no such issues

It is made from a blend of Tempranillo and Graciano and aged for 5 years in barrel and 5 years in bottle prior to release

The wine is partly aged in 600-litre barrels
