SOLD……A sewing box- a relic of the ship The Royal George. c 1850One of the largest pieces I've come across that are made from the oak timbers of the ship the Royal George. In 1782 the ship sank whilst being refitted taking 600 people with her including women and children. In 1840 the wreck was blown up but the timbers and copper were salvaged and made into souvenirs and sold in the 1850s. This sewing, or possibly a jewel box, has a pearl plaque on the lid engraved and filled with black 'Royal George 29th Aug,
