It is found in a wide range of shades from deep purple to pale violet and even pink

and when exposed to the elements over a long period of time can change into the closely related malachite

It rarely occurs in crystal form but is often found in botryoidal or fibrous formations

where early very productive copper mines supplied much of the ancient world with the material

Our specimens consist of fine crystals spread across a matrix in shades of both blue and green

typically associated with granitic pegmatites
