It cycles automatically, alternating periods of rotation and rest so the mechanism only runs when needed. Mode B runs clockwise for 2 minutes, rests 6 minutes, runs counterclockwise for 2 minutes, rests 6 minutes and repeats. Mode L runs clockwise for 2 minutes, rests 18 minutes, runs counterclockwise for 2 minutes, rests 18 minutes
