SOLD………A matching set of 7 pearl topped reels / spools. Mid 19thcA set of 7 cotton reels spools with carved pearl tops, silvered stems and bone bases. They are in excellent condition with no damage. The tops and bases are 3cm in diameter and they are 3. 5cm high. NB. The bases are definitely domestic animal bone (see the typical black flecking shown in the last photo) Stock no. KY24

A rare survival in excellent condition

The way the finger rings join the arms indicates an early date- late 18th / early 19th century

The green silk panel has separated a little from one of the five seams but it isn't obvious

Lace making was a cottage industry using domestic animal bone and local soft woods

The print of the cards depicts the style of the time with square corners

A charming olive green silk pin cushion disc embroidered with green silk stems and tiny coloured beads as flowers

The rest of the varnished surface has some light scratching and pitting ( see last photo )

75 cm and is of flattened form

A little glass scent bottle with gilt decoration in the form of zigzags and wavy lines

Inside the cloth for the needles has a few moth holes but is in reasonable condition
